We provide nutritional counseling, medical care, preventive health care, and surgery to a variety of exotic pets, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and ferrets, in addition to birds and reptiles. In some cases, vaccinations are offered as well.

Dr. Orman ‘Skip’ Leighton
DVM and Medical Director
Dr. Orman Leighton is South Peak Veterinary Hospital’s Medical Director and he specializes in the General Practice of Medicine and Surgery, primarily providing care to dogs and cats, but also some exotics. He has been a veterinarian for 37 years. He earned his B.S. in Zoology from the University of Arizona and his D.V.M. from Araneta University in the Philippines. Dr. Leighton is a member of the AVMA and the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. Dr. Leighton, who grew up in the Saugerties area, has three children – Melissa, Ben, and Avery. He has two cats named Vinny and Aspen. He enjoys raising bees, growing orchids, road biking, hiking and kayaking. He also enjoys studying the Civil War and traveling to “anywhere” time permitting. Dr. Leighton currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Hudson Valley Animal Emergency Clinic. A former Eagle Scout, Dr. Leighton is a Vietnam Veteran where he received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.
