Dr. Jeanette L. Maucher Partner Doctor, DVM

Dr. Jeanette Maucher grew up in the Hudson Valley and received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Binghamton University in 2003. She spent several years working in veterinary hospitals before attending Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2011 with her doctorate degree.

Her veterinary interests are surgery and dentistry, preventative and senior care, pain management, and she has a particular fondness for felines and the unique challenges they can present. Dr. Maucher practices low-stress handling and continually pursues the most current information on best practices for the wellness of our kitty companions, following the adage "learn better, do better."

She is fortunate to have 3 mesmerizing feline companions agree to share her home – Lucretia (Borgia) Panthyr, Radagast Jaskier, and Tauriel Merigold – along with one corn snake houseguest, Mia. When she isn’t performing the role of veterinarian, she plays violin and a little guitar, writes, bakes, and gardens, and occasionally flies her geek flag at renaissance festivals and various cons. (Ask her about her cat names!) Having lived and practiced in New York, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and most recently Nebraska, she is pleased to return "home" and start the next adventure with the excellent people at Heart + Paw’s Family Partner, South Peak Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Marla Ellman VMD

Dr. Marla Ellman has been with South Peak Veterinary Hospital since 2012. She earned her degree in Biology and Philosophy from Bryn Mawr College and her Veterinary Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

She grew up in Philadelphia but is happy to call the Hudson Valley her home. She lives in the area with her family and a rescued Labrador named Aurora. Professionally, she enjoys internal medicine and integrative care. In Early 2022, she became a certified veterinary acupuncturist through Chi University.

Dr. Corinne Kilmer DVM

Dr. Corinne Kilmer is native to upstate NY and grew up in Saugerties. She attended SUNY Cobleskill for her undergraduate degree, where she majored in Animal Science. From 2017-2019, Dr. Kilmer lived in Fort Collins, CO, where she earned her master's degree in Toxicology from Colorado State University. She obtained her DVM from Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023.

Dr. Kilmer recently moved back to upstate NY to be close to family. She looks forward to serving her community and exploring all that the Hudson Valley has to offer. Dr. Kilmer is eager to establish strong relationships with clients and their pets. Her special interests include feline medicine, nutrition, and behavior. Dr. Kilmer is also Fear-Free Certified and values the importance of a low-stress hospital environment.

Outside of work, Dr. Kilmer appreciates hiking, videogames, house plants, and enjoying the company of good friends, family, and her beloved cat, Willow.

My family has been with Southpeak since 1979. It has not been the same since Dr. Leighton passed away. They have... greatly increased their prices and when I pushed back on my latest bill I was told there’s clinics that are cheaper. I said I want my animals taken care of and have a regular vet and I was told that’s the price. I said Dr. Leighton would not have ever given me a bill like that. I was told he was old-school and that’s not how it’s done anymore. I will not be shamed because I want quality care for a reasonable price. Be prepared to be charged the higher end of the estimates and then having them finding other ways to add in other services. I have found a new vet to take care of my animals.read more

We had a pre-surgery consult for our pet. The surgery was scheduled two weeks from the visit. While at the appointment,... the vet suggested moving the surgery up to the following week. We agreed. As business owners, we cleared our calendar which is never easy or simple. The surgery was scheduled for 8:30am. At 4:45pm the night before - 16 hours before the appointment, they called to cancel. Their policy is, if we canceled the appointment less than 24 hours in advance, we would owe them $100.00. They refuse to pay us for canceling on such short notice. Yet they canceled and upended our life then they wanted to move the surgery to the end of August. This practice misdiagnosed my pet years ago and I was resigned to her living a life in pain. Another vet correctly diagnosed my girl and now she lives a happy, painfree life. I am so happy we changed from South Peak. They treat you and your pet like a number with no care about what their impact is on you and your life. Service is a slogan without substance.read more

They are absolutely amazing with my German Shepherd puppy who will be a year old next month. They gave me any and all... information I needed answered any questions I had with no problems made sure I fully understand everything let me know the best options for my dog and my situation they let me bring in my cat that I had just recently got back gave her her vaccines gave her updated everything super friendly the women at the front desk are super friendly they treat my dog just like it was one of their own personal animals so friendly with her patient kind everything I would ask for from a vet is 100% what Southpeak delivered I love using them and I love that they love my animals the way that they do!!!!!read more

I took my cats here for 6 years until the eldest just died, and could not be happier with the level of care this clinic... provides. I've seen both Dr. Ellman and Dr. Winkler and love them both. I've found the highest level of professional expertise and compassionate caring from both them and their staff, most especially so when all options for treating a sick cat had been exhausted and it was time to end their suffering. The clinic is clean, well maintained and well-run. Very highly recommended veterinary clinic.read more

I simply asked the two receptionist for a cup of water and no one would help us. I was wearing a mask and polite. If they couldn’t even give a cup of water to two stranded hikers how do you think they’ll treat your animals.read more
