August 15th is National Check the Chip Day

It’s the worst feeling in the world— your beloved pet has gone missing. When one finds themselves in such a situation, it can feel frustrating, overwhelming, and heartbreaking. However, such hopeless feelings can be avoided if your pet has an up-to-date microchip! Microchips greatly increase the chances of pets being reunited with their families should they get lost or stolen, although it only works if the registration information is accurate.

It is important to make an appointment to have your pet microchipped if they aren’t already. However, if they are, check your pet’s microchip registration information to ensure that it is accurate. If the information isn’t up to date, don’t fret— your veterinarian can help you! At Heart + Paw, we strive to make this process fast and easy.

If you want to update your pet’s registration information, you’ll need their microchip number. In addition to this, you’ll also need to have an already created account with the manufacturer. When updating your pet’s information, make sure everything, including your phone number and home address, are correct.

Heart + Paw knows that your pet getting lost can be a devastating feeling. However, if they are microchipped, there is still hope! Make sure to speak with your veterinarian at your next appointment about getting a microchip for your pet, and more importantly making sure the information is updated. Microchip checking is done free of charge at Heart + Paw centers and will be done at all appointments this month to ensure your pet’s safety.
